The World is Opening

Our “hero” image is from the peak of Mount Buangor, the highest in the Pyrenees region.

As Covid restrictions are being relaxed and we can move around more freely, many are discovering what there is to explore “in our own backyard”. The Pyrenees alone has a wealth of attractions from great food, wineries, camping, bushwalking and the list goes on. As businesses are opening their doors and people are more confident about moving around, each day brings something new to unearth. We still need to take precautions, but to see our towns re-emerge and a new energy return, 2021 is promising to be pretty good indeed.

A sip a sup and a friend to share

We were hoping for a better summer to round out the most difficult year most of us have seen and it looks like it’s going to happen. Imagine yourself where these two ladies are – overlooking a winery in one of the most renowned wine regions in Australia. Take your pick of thirty wonderful wineries and cellar doors many located in beautiful natural settings in Victoria’s Pyrenees Region https://visitpyrenees.com.au/

For the two wheeled explorer

Did you know that you can ride from Maryborough to Ballarat (or the opposite direction) via the Maryborough to Ballarat Heritage Trail. The 90km trail can be ridden in a day for the very energetic, but to experience the historic towns, the countryside and meet the locals, take your time over a few days on your own two wheels. Major Events Returning

So many anticipated events were cancelled throughout 2020, so it is great to see many being rescheduled for 2021. One to return to Ballarat is world-class cycling with the city securing the rights to host the 2021 AusCycling Federation University Road National Championships to be held from 3rd to 7th February. Hundreds of Australia’s finest elite, para, under-23, under-19 and amateur riders are set to compete in Ballarat for the chance to wear the green and gold jersey in 2021.

Santa Couldn’t Wait for the Story to Unfold

It is so good to see more and more local shops reopening. The Story Unfolds, Creswick’s delightful repurposed bookshop is now opening Wednesday to Saturday, the first time since March. Santa couldn’t wait to go through the door and buy up all his Christmas presents. Details here and follow on Instagram here

Taste of Goulburn Hampers

For the first time in 18 years, the much loved Tastes of the Goulburn Festival was cancelled for 2020 – like so many other events. However, the clever producers of the region have put together three incredible hampers to take your tastebuds on a trip around the Goulburn Valley. Each hamper showcases the food and wine delights that are made in the Goulburn Valley. A great idea for Christmas. The regular festival returns in October 2021. For more click here
