One of Bendigo’s longest running wine and food festivals – Bendigo Heritage Uncorked – hosted by winemakers of Bendigo, has been very innovative by taking the celebrated festival online. For the first time in history Bendigo Heritage Uncorked is going virtual. The wine chat series, from unseen spaces within Bendigo’s historic buildings, will be broadcast live as individual events over six Fridays.
Bendigo Heritage Uncorked – The Unseen Series is a reimagined online wine series to be enjoyed in the comfort of home.
Each Friday, local host, Kathie Bolitho, chats to three winemakers from the unseen corner of a historic Bendigo building. Visitors will enjoy a live-stream wine chat with a pre-purchased wine pack. The wines and stories of each winemaker will be featured, along with quiz questions, wine tasting questions and comments, prizes and a virtual tour of the historic building.
Bendigo Winegrowers Association President Wes Vine said the decision to move the festival online came down to wanting to do something different since the event couldn’t proceed in its traditional format. “We still really wanted to bring people together, so we saw an opportunity to use the virtual event concept to do this,” Mr Vine said. “People can choose to join one Friday night wine chat with their pre-purchased wine pack. Or if they’re really keen, they can tune in for multiple nights.
Mr Vine believes this opportunity also presents the Bendigo wine region with a new audience of people who enjoy wine. “We hope to connect with people who maybe haven’t been to the Bendigo wine region before and now get the opportunity to see the different wine styles that we produce” he said.
“The collaboration between wineries to pull the series together has been amazing. Everyone is really keen to be doing something different that continues to showcase Bendigo region wines,” says Mr Vine.
Bendigo Heritage Uncorked – The Unseen Series will take place as individual events, at 6pm each Friday night for six weeks, beginning 23rd October 2020. Wine packs are on sale now. For more information go to www.bendigowine.org.au/events
