BOOKS, FOOTY & SPUDS

This month will hopefully have something for everyone. Books and fine music in Clunes, food, beer and football in Ballarat, an orchestra at Cave Hill Creek, Spuds in Trentham, heritage and projections in Smeaton, and artist studios scattered throughout the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region!

THE LURE OF BOOKS
The call of the book is strong. Clunes’ now famous Booktown Festival is the place to be for booklovers this weekend.  So much happening, including author talks, dinners, exhibitions and workshops.  Did we mention that there will also be many books for sale? 5 – 6 May. www.clunesbooktown.com.au/

FINE MUSIC IN A FINE CHURCH
There are more than books on offer in Clunes this weekend. The Four Seasons Fine Music Festival presents two amazing events at St. Pauls Anglican Church.  On Saturday 5th May at 5pm The Australian Chamber Choir will perform Stabat Mater, followed on Sunday 6th May at 2pm with the Chamber Brass Concert with Kavanagh Brass. Purchase tickets online or for more information, visit http://ballaratanglican.org.au/fourseasons/

AFL FOOTY IS BACK IN BALLARAT
The Western Bulldogs are returning to Ballarat for the 2018 season where they will take on the Gold Coast Suns at Mars Stadium this Saturday 5th May! The big question is, will Caleb Daniel’s helmet return from injury?  For tickets go to https://bit.ly/2vW8LnU

THE SPUD STRUTS ITS STUFF
Once again the town of Trentham kicks up its heels in honour of the humble spud on Saturday 5th May.  Now in its eleventh year, The Great Trentham Spudfest has something for the whole family to enjoy from live entertainment, art and crafts stalls, cooking demonstrations, while paying homage to the humble spud.  This is a whole town event.  www.trenthamspudfest.org.au

ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY FOR ART
This weekend the artists, ceramicists, sculptors, printmakers and photographers of the Daylesford Macedon Ranges are opening their studios for the final weekend this year. Kim Haughie and Steph Goss are two of the many talented creatives of the area all set to share their studios this weekend. 5 & 6 May. http://dmropenstudios.com.au/

CELEBRATE WITH CAVE HILL CREEK
Beautiful music in a beautiful venue, a perfect scenario to take Mum on Mother’s Day. Cave Hill Creek, award winning accommodation, event and outdoor recreation venue is turning 30 on May 14th and they’d like you to celebrate with them and the 40-piece Victorian Concert Orchestra. You can order coffees, cakes and alcohol and all ticket proceeds will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. www.cavehillcreek.com.au

SEEING SMEATON
Anderson’s Mill is a postcard perfect setting on the bank of Birch’s Creek in Smeaton, a small town north of Ballarat. The five-storey mill is also the home of National Trust Anderson’s Mill Heritage Weekend, and the tie-in special projection event Now You See It, featuring a whole host of events and activities during the day and in the evening projections onto the mill featuring music and a collaborative artists video along with fantastic community drawings. 11 May evening, 12 & 13 May from 10am, projections from dusk. Heritage Weekend and Now You See It.

BEER AND FOOD
Good Beer Week – for some an illogical statement, for many the best week of the year. Bendigo events include Local Legends beer and cheese at the Handle Bar, and in Ballarat the Munster Arms are hosting Past | Present | Future, featuring beer styles of the past, present and future, matched with a six-course degustation menu. 11 – 20 May. https://bit.ly/2reAITq
