LOST ARTS AND FOUND FESTIVALS

The long weekend is a great chance for many to take a breath and check out some of the fantastic events! We’ve found plenty to see for this weekend, and a few events to look forward to!

FIND YOURSELF IN KYNETON
The Lost Trades Fair is back for the March long weekend, with over 100 artisans from a huge selection of trades. You’ll find a printing press, an armourer, a pinstriper, jewellers, leatherworkers, tool makers, chairmakers and much more! ANTIQUES IN BALLARAT
The Ballarat Antique Fair is back for the March long weekend. At 48 years old, it’s Australia’s longest running antique fair and is a must-visit for collectors. Now held at the historic Mining Exchange and Trades Hall. 10 – 12 March. www.ballaratantiquefair.com.au/

CELEBRATING IRELAND
Quigley & Clarke Café and Restaurant in Clunes is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in style with a 2-course dinner on 17 March. A NIGHT TO SHINE
Keebles Country House in Clunes is hosting a wonderful selection of opera and musical theatre highlights with Opera Under the Stars. SPARKLE TIME
ChillOut Festival in Daylesford turns 21 this year. Featuring a variety of events, including a parade, celebrate Queer Country Pride in the heart of the Hepburn Shire on the long weekend in March. 8 – 12 March. www.chilloutfestival.com.au/

BEGONIAS IN BALLARAT
The Begonia Festival is back on the long weekend, with a big program of events. Celebrating 66 years, the festival features flowers, food and live performances. 10 – 12 March. www.ballaratbegoniafestival.com/

TWO WEEKENDS OF AMAZING ART
Arts Open is a fantastic event taking place over two weekends, where artists in the Mount Alexander Shire will be opening their doors. A biennial event, 2018 is the 4th Arts Open, with over 90 professional artists and craftspeople showing their work. March 10 – 12 & March 17 – 18. www.artsopen.com.au/

CELEBRATING LIFE IN BENDIGO
Zinda Festival in Bendigo is a celebration of the multicultural music, food and art that make it such a great place to live. The Bendigo Festival of Cultures has been renamed to Zina, which means alive and lively in a number of languages. 16 – 22 March, with the core event a concert and multicultural food market on Saturday 17 March 5pm to 9pm. https://zinda.org.au/

A MAD HATTERS PARTY IN BALLAN
Ballan is celebrating its 43rd Autumn Festival with a Mad Hatters Tea Party theme, featuring a Queen of Hearts Cake Decorating Competition, A Mad Matters High Tea Party, and Liberty London’s Quilting Exhibition. With over 100 market stalls and food trucks, there’s plenty to see and do! Sunday 18 March. www.ballanautumnfestival.org

A GOURMET TRAIN TRIP
In connection with the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Victorian Goldfields Railway is hosting a special Ales on the Rails Train. On Saturday March 17 or Saturday March 24 you can catch a steam train from Castlemaine to Maldon with beer (or other drink) samples and a gourmet lunch and then travel back to Castlemaine in style. THE LOST ART OF PARTBOOKING
The Song Company will be at The Art Gallery of Ballarat to perform the Byrd Round Table, celebrating the Renaissance skill of partbooking, where each artist will have their own handwritten music, which when performed together become something so much greater.
