A historic church converted to a luxury B+B in Lyonville between Trentham and Daylesford is getting rave reviews.
The Cottage @ Babbington Park Farm is proving to be the place to be. Since opening in September 2013 in the quiet village of Lyonville, the conversion of a Sunday school-style wooden church has had guests coming in droves. “The Weslyan church was moved from the centre of Lyonville to the property on the back of a truck approximately 60 years ago,” says property owner Rachael McLeod. “With a fabulous team of local tradesman, we lovingly restored it during 2013 into a two bedroom, fully self contained luxury cottage that has guests raving.”
The cottage captures beautiful views of rolling hills and is set within the grounds of one of Lyonville’s oldest properties, which features an original 1900 farmhouse and late 1800s shearing shed. The farm has a magnificent spring fed lake, stocked with rainbow trout for fishing or for guests to cool down in the summer. It’s a beautiful place to stop and relax and with the magnificent Wombat State Forest on the doorstep, it’s also perfect for walking, bicycle and motorbike riding and horse riding.
“When we launched the property online in September, we had no idea that guests would find us so quickly,” Rachael says. “But it shows people enjoy having the space and feeling of the countryside, but somewhere that’s still within walking distance to eat out. There is nothing more divine walking back home from the Radio Springs Hotel by the light of the moon along the country lanes. It is very similar to the English countryside, but still only one hour from Melbourne”.
