Beaufort – Break Your Journey

You know what it’s like – you have a destination to reach and you want to get there as quickly as you can so you develop tunnel vision, look straight ahead, focusing on that white line on the highway and keep going.  But what have you missed along the way?  One town you shouldn’t miss is Beaufort – a town that may not jump at you screaming “look at me”, but by taking the time to move around, you will be surprised at what you’ll find.

Located approximately 30 minutes west of Ballarat, this town has a main street boasting excellent cafes, craft shops, a Motel and a Winery.  There is also an Imperial Egg Gallery which houses a collection of hand painted eggs.  The Beaufort Lake and Caravan Park is within walking distance of the township and is a popular fishing spot.  Mt. Buangor State Park and Mt. Cole Forest are nearby which have waterfalls, camping grounds and great walking tracks and all are looking rather lush after abundant rainfalls.

And on the first Saturday of the month, the excellent Beaufort Farmers Market is held in the centre of town offering a mix of fresh produce and arts and crafts.  So take the time to break your journey or better still, make this a destination on your travelling calendar.  You’ll be pleased you did.
